RITUAL TECHNOLOGY
TIMEBEING
ALBUM
A prehistoric tribe dances around the fire. Young revelers lose themselves on a packed dancefloor. Explorers fly a rocket toward another galaxy. In the TIMEBEING universe, these things are all connected. From the earliest days of humanity, people have strived to expand their reality beyond the limitations of the here and now—and have used technology to make it happen. Their methods and machines may have changed across the centuries, but the drive remains constant, vibrating through history and occupying a space where time loses all meaning. “The art of making music is the art of manipulating time,” says Uji. “I have had experiences where time shifts dramatically; sometimes it slows down to a halt, while moments seemingly become infinite. This is where the magic happens. This is when the fabric of what we call reality begins to show its seams.”
FROM THE VERY FIRST RITUAL AT THE VERY FIRST FIRE THAT BURNED
HUMANS HAVE BUILT TECHNOLOGY THAT RAISES THE MATERIAL TO THE LEVEL OF THE SPIRITUAL
RHYTHMIC NOTES AND WILD DANCES SPINNING US INTO FLIGHT
WITH THE DESTINATION OF ALTERED STATES
WAVES OF VIBRATION THAT CONNECT US TO THE CORE
OF THE VERY DEPTHS OF WHAT MAKES US HUMAN
STRINGING TOGETHER SPARKLING TIMELINES LIKE THE STRANDS OF A SPIDERWEB
WE ARE AN UNDERGROUND COLLECTIVE OF STORYTELLERS, CREATORS AND DREAMERS
WHO KNOW THERE IS MORE THAN WHAT WE SEE
WE HAVE BEEN HERE BEFORE AND WE WILL BE HERE AGAIN
WE ARE BUILDING THE RITUAL TECHNOLOGY THAT TRANSCENDS TIME AND SPACE
IN MOVEMENT SOUND AND VISION
WE ARE AN EXPLOSION OF STARS SCATTERED ACROSS THE SKIES OF PAST PRESENT AND FUTURE
FEELING THE PULL OF THE MAGNETISM THAT CONNECTS US TOGETHER
WHILE KNOWING THE GRAVITY THAT HOLDS US IN PLACE IS ALL AN ILLUSION
CREATE YOUR OWN MYTHOLOGY
TIMEBEING MANIFESTO
FILM
An 8 part visual album directed by Jazmin Calcarami, as part of the multi-platform work TIMEBEING created by UJI.
Three characters, bound together across time, unlock their common fate through the technology of ritual. The story, a time-shifting tapestry of 3 interlinking narratives, serves as a companion to the 8 tracks that comprise TIMEBEING, Uji’s new conceptual album. We start with a young man undergoing a self-inflicted rite of passage, continuing with a woman’s journey into her own reflected reality, to a futuristic alchemical celebration that breaks Uji’s perception of reality. As the parallel stories unfold, the veil lifts between their interwoven fate, revealing their connection and ultimately allowing them to evolve, merge and illuminate.
The film stars Kanako Hongo as Asuka, Gerardo Melo as Gen, Mariela Puyol as Niax, and Uji as himself.
